A green steam engine and its coal tender wait on a stretch of prairie track. The Prairie Flyer has a round boiler with brass bands, a tall flared smokestack, a brass bell and dome, a wood cab with a curved red roof, a round headlamp and a big red cowcatcher up front. Its red spoked wheels are thick drums joined by rods you build as a raised layer. The tender carries a heap of printed coal, and the track has ties, gravel and prairie grass, with a signal and a mile marker beside it. The railway and its number 47 are made up.

Every part comes already cut and scored, so there is no knife work. You fold, glue the labelled flaps and build it section by section: track, wheels, rods, cowcatcher, boiler, cab, tender and the things beside the track. The pieces that sit on the model have their spots printed on it, each marked with its own letter.

In the box: 49 loose parts, already cut out and scored, on heavy cardstock printed in full colour, and a step by step picture manual in English and French.

You need: white PVA glue, a toothpick and a few evenings. Tweezers help with the small parts.

Finished size: 4 x 13.5 x 6.25 in. Level: hard. Contains small parts, best for ages 14 and up.
