A round, cheerful hot air balloon has come down on a grassy hill for a picnic. It is sewn from 72 patches of gingham, stripes, polka dots, little flowers, stars and quilting, in coral, marigold, teal and cream, with a few little pictures stitched on. Below it are a woven basket with sandbags, a burner and a big orange flame. The hilltop has a picnic blanket, a hamper and a striped windsock.

Every part comes already cut and scored, so there is no knife work. You fold, glue the labelled flaps and build it section by section: hill, basket, balloon, ropes and picnic. A hidden post runs up through the hill and basket, and four strong paper ropes hold the balloon steady.

In the box: 33 loose parts, already cut out and scored, on heavy cardstock printed in full colour, and a step by step picture manual in English and French.

You need: white PVA glue, a toothpick, a few coins and an evening or two. Tweezers help with the small parts.

Finished size: 5.25 x 5 x 11.25 in. Level: medium. Contains small parts, best for ages 12 and up.
